I'd like to hear some opinions on using a keyboard with the Audiobox 22VSL for studio AND live sound applications.

I'm getting my wife an Audiobox 22vsl for her birthday next month and want to make sure it's a good investment. She already has a yamaha NP-30 keyboard with midi in and out but no decent sounds.

She's currently working on her demo (which I'll eventually be recording on my StudioLive 24.4.2 and Studio One 2 Pro) and needs to have her keyboard (with sounds) and her voice work together easily for her so she can get copies of the songs to her studio musicians.

Is the 22VSL a good fit to get her keyboard sounds?
Are there any recommendations for plugins that are good/decent but not severely expensive?
Is the 22VSL low latency enough to use in a live setting for her keyboard?

Thanks in advance

The 22VSL is nothing more than a sound card
it will not provide you with any keyboard sounds
it's basically a tiny mixer which requires your computer to operate

Right.. My apologies... I had assumed most peoplle would assume i knew that. Any interface is just that. I can see where my original post would lead you to your response. Now knowing that I'm not a basic sound junkie, any recommendations on good VSTs? And what is the latency like if I applied them live?

Might I recommend both the AudioBox for your wife's voice and a Midi-USB adapter for her keys. They're pretty cheap and keep everything going like it should. If her keyboard has a USB port on it you can likely disregard the adapter all together and just plug it straight into the computer. Have everything play out of the AudioBox and you're set for live or recording.

The Midi interface will keep the latency low enough to match up with her voice live. You can run them both into S1 at the same time and create tracks and put whatever sounds you want on the keys as well as process her voice live.

Thanks Mono. Is there a reason that I wouldn't want to use the audiobox's midi to go in for the keys? Would that prohibit either voice or keys from playing properly?

Sorry, brainfarted. Forgot the Audioboxes had MIDI on them.

Disregard most of what I said.

No worries Mono.

I think I've settled on the 22VSL but just wanting more info from existing users. Worst case, it means I don't have to pull my SL 24.4.2 out if I'm doing simple track recording.

Hi Guys,

I'd like to add that with the purchase of amy AudioBox VSL interface you get a free copy of Studio One Artist v.2 which includes additional loops, samples and instruments such as pianos, electric pianos, organs, synths ect. Check out the links to these videos below for a demonstration of yours truly on keys. I'm using Studio One for the sounds in one video and Native Instruments Kontakt 4 with Scarbee Vintage Keys and Vintage Organs. The second video I use the AudioBox 22 VSL and send the left and right outputs to the (main feed) StudioLive 1602.

Thanks JJones! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I watched that broadcast live but thanks for confirming it. I look forward to purchasing this and getting to play with it. I know my wife will be excited! especially since it's a surprise.
