So I'm trying to use a Digimax D8 as a slave to an M-Audio Profire 2626, but I can't get it to sync. I've connected the ADAT cable and the BNC word clock cable, and set the Profire as master and Presonus as slave, but I'm still getting that crackling sound from the Presonus.
One thing I noticed is that the 'external' light flashes on the Digimax clock button, which I assume means there is a problem
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

My advice and suggestions should never be considered advice or suggestions. These are mostly insane ramblings of a poor aircraft mechanic who can, strangely enough, still hear.

Other than that, barring a faulty connection or interface it should just work.
I double-checked the sampling rate yesterday - both are set at 48 kHz. But it's the same problem. When I set the Digimax to "external", the light flashes, and there is no input at all into the Profire.

I found a solution, and thought I would post it here in case anyone else has the same problem. I had to slave the Profire to the Presonus - it wouldn't work the other way around. On top of that, I had to set it to sync through the ADAT lightpipe, rather than the BNC word clock cable, because the word clock sync wouldn't work.
I had the same problem about a year a go. Fortunately I had all the needed equipment to solve this problem.
Digimax D8 doesn't sync with Profire 2626 via BNC word clock because the output level of the word clock of 2626 is too low for Digimax.
You need a word clock repeater (amplifier) that raises the word clock signal of the Profire 2626 from ~2.8V to ~3.5V. It's easy to make and doesn't cost too much.
1 Schmitt trigger circuitry (74HC14) will do this. (I chose HC (not HCT) because of it's characteristics). The propagation delay and the rise/fall time will be short enough to sync the two devices.
