The Problem: The current “Transform Instrument to Audio” does not easily or realistically support a multi-channels transform. It currently requires you to either:
1) Explode midi notes to separate tracks and then use a 5 step procedure for each channel, or
2) Use the stem export for each channels and redirect the file back in to the song
Unfortunately splitting notes out does not equal channels assignments in most cases. Bouncing is not the same as transforming. Imagine trying to transform out an 80 instrument orchestra playing hundreds of notes on 16 channels.
For Example: Here is what is required to get it done with a basic drum rock pattern after splitting it out by note.
1. Solo the track to see the midi note to channel relationship
2. Select transform for that track.
3. Re un-select the Remove instrument (it should remember your last setting)
4. Select the correct channel
5. Transform the track
6. Repeat 1-5 in this case 10 times
Market Analysis: Currently most DAWS support a multi-channels “freeze” that produces an audio track for each channel of the VSTi that is being used in the project.
Benefits: Customers could freely use multi-channel VST instruments with channels to mix with inserts and sends and transform them into audio releasing memory and CPU reducing usage, and then could un-transform then to make further tweaks to the mix.
Feature Request: 1. Add an option to transform all active channels or allow the user to select multiple channels in the transform dialogue drop down.
2. Remember the last setting used in the transform dialogue box ( remove instrument Y/N)
If you use multi channel VSTi, most commonly (Kontakt, ARIA, Player, BFD2, S.20, Ezdrummer, Slate Drums etc.) and you want to FREEZE/Transform, you are affected by this large gap in functionality.
Adding to that, not being able to choose if you want mono files is kinda annoying. Most multichannel VST's like Kontakt can output mono channels, same goes for most drum plugins.

How can anyone call something so divisive a community?
I was really excited to see that S1 v2 implemented a form of "Freeze" but was very disappointed to find that multichannel virtual instruments were not supported.
Almost every song I record has drums and they are ALWAYS multichanneled. I would bet that this is the case for most users. It sure would be nice to be able to freeze those with one command.

Big thumbs up to this. This is my biggest complaint. Note that it is probably much more than supporting transform. There just seems to be 1:1 relationship assumed between a track and mixer channel. If it isn't so, many features fall apart. I for example tried to use track list to make my work easier - hide tracks I'm not using at the moment etc. Turned out to be unusable - hiding a track hides only one mixer channel, so with multi-channel instruments I ended up having a mess.

One midi track feeding a multi-output VI? You want to hide the midi track and all the mixer channels for a multi-out instrument at the same time? Pack it into a folder with a bus for all the outputs and make a macro function to hide sources + hide track. When you select the arrange folder and run the macro, it all goes away.
