sounds good to me julia. too bad they aren't gonna give everybody a score or placement number so we can come back here and compare... that way we could wave our lower numbers or higher placement in mr. gorman's face... lol just jokin matthew!

but seriously... i know most of us amateurs don't have much of a chance but it don't matter if peeps have $100K worth of equipment or a $1,000,000 studio in their basement... the fact is still the same... if they have a crappy ear... none of that equipment or treatment will help them. so let's TRY to be positive and keep a stiff upper lip. (yeah RIGHT... that coming from a manic depressant! lol)

No worries JBranam. It's me your talking to, not godparticle. Anything you could throw in my face would be better looking than what is already there.

That is, of course, IF your mix is thow-in-the-face worthy.

Some Random Thoughts:

Those expensive Focal speakers will quite likely attract some higher level mix talent. I suspect that most of the guys and gals who have their sights set squarely on winning those speakers won't submit their mixes until very near the deadline cutoff, to prevent others from referencing their mixes.

If that's the case, I think we'll probably see the very best mixes show up near or on the submission deadline day. I do know of at least one subjectively "world class" mix talent guy who's kinda hinted that he might drop one in there and I suspect he actually won't be the only one.

Those speakers are a pretty huge prize.

I got my mix done. Not real sure about it, mixed feelings. There is nothing added to the master.

Just a warning. A half deaf lady is submitting one in a couple of days. Y'all should be shakin' in your boots. lol.

* Who the hell recorded the overheads?
* Yeah, that's what a rock snare sounds like.
* Hmm....

This is going to be interesting....

What's the RMS supposed to be on this anyway?

Don't limit the masterbus. I think they wanted, like, -16 to -12 or so; should be in the PDF with the files. I think mine was around -12 RMS, peaking at -3 on the final mix (and then soundcloud did its thing).

Post it up when you submit!

I never limit the master bus on a mix. I usually peak no higher than -6 dB. My futzing around at the moment with it has it peaking at -7 dB. Plenty of headroom for Mastering.

Bah! I'm still peaking at -5 dB! I want it at -6 dB. That's always my target. My ears are shot. I got -19.6 RMS. w/ -18 dBFS for the mix. I'm done for the night. I'll mixdown tomorrow. I want those speakers.

This was fun. It was my first live mix. My first real band. That's why I've been joking about the pros should be shaking in their boots. Except I remember what rock is supposed to sound like. I'm 60. I have vinyl. I know who this Liza character reminds me of.

Well did anyone here win anything? Did anyone here the winning mixes? WTF were they thinking? Congratulations to the winners anyway. I really love the dynamic range on the winner's mix. I only wanted the speakers out of the entire lot.

I made one small 5 minute tweak a couple of hours late, and decided to post this an hour ago just for fun and ...
