OK, cool, I'm sure splashtop will work'ish, but I'll check out that TouchOSC, I assume it uses MIDI to control the DMXIS.

Thanks for all the info Robare, you have pointed me in the right direction for sure I'm drooling over all the moving lights through the fog, that's next, I'm thinking a couple Spot duos and a fog machine wouldn't hurt anything, they could prolly even sit on the floor and still look good, although then you get people stepping on them, or maybe set them on the subs. Hmmm, i might be able to fit those in the budget right now!

I have a buyer lined up for my pinspots and Intimidator 1.0's that will give me most of the money I need to buy four Chauvet Spot Duos. That will give me 8 pinspot full moving heads with colors and gobos. nice tight beam. I liked the Blizzard Blades, but these will come in at about half the price of 8 Blades.

The nice thing about the duo spots is you can mount them under you speakers if you want. I guess theres a hole for the pole to fit through.

Baby steps though. I'm doing my upgrades as I can, letting my rig pay for itself. I do have some high dollar jobs on the books that will help pay for everything as well. The one, a Grad Ceremony, I need the 12 3NX's for uplighting. so I picked up another 4. There's a couple Mini Kinta's I want as well. I have to order them this week if they are going to be here by the time I need them.

i looked into those intimidator duos. be careful though - it's only a 10 watt LED in each one of those. make sure your lights match. if you have bright LED washes or uplights, you need your movers to be even brighter so they cut through.

i've done a boatload of lighting in the last few years. it's best to buy right the first time. your lights won't hold their value at all if you ever try to resell them.

on that note, if anyone wants to buy any used lights...

True. The pinspots that I'm replaxing are 3W so the 10W should be brighter, and with the tight beam as well...

We are playing this venue on the 20th. As you can see the ceiling is pretty low. This is what we used the last time we played there, back in Nov. old old school.

Here's the new rig, same spot.

Here's some scenes from the new setup. Keeping it pretty simple.
11 - 3NX's
4 - Minimac Profiles.

There's a lot to be said for subtlety, but 50 seconds of blue slowly fading to green doesn't make for a real interesting video. I can't be arsed to put it to music.

ANYWAY...

I want to buy some used lights I'm a lil over an hour drive away from you, so if you'd be in to it, I could come up and pick a few things up from ya within the next couple weeks or so. Send me a PM if you're down, Thanks!

Well, I just ordered 2 Puck Fab 5's, to start I'm just going to mount one on each speaker stand and light up the band, I still need the software but I'll order that soon.

I also order a Driverack 260 and a DBX RTA-M mic, I'm super psyched about that! My behringer crossover recently crapped out on me (imagine that) so I've been using aux fed subs, it's nice to be able to control the amount of bass using the iPad, but other than that I haven't been a huge fan of having to do subs that way. I can't wait to have the system analized and to use fully parametric eq's and time allignment functionality, Woo Hoo!

Dave, I'm still interested in some movers and software, I haven't blown the budget yet

Can't Wait! I've got some homework to do, kind of sucks that the first gig I have schedule to do with it is with a couple of Pros from the Hair Metal arena, mentioned in the first post, they seem like pretty cool guys though, I'll be there all day making sure everything is optomized to perfection before they even walk through the door though, I think I may order a couple J48's too so they feel a little more at ease when they go to plug in their acoustic guitars

I'm a bit late to this, but I read in the intro post you wanted to jazz up the lighting a bit.

We got someone (jman31) at the vdrums forum who makes specialised LED light systems.

Take a look, it's more of an add-on, but it does jazz up a soundstage! See if you like it.

Here's a video from tonight. Small open mic. I mixed remotely via iPad with my SL16.0.2 you can see it at the right hand corner.

Anyway, I had both Fab5's on slow fades.

Useless trivia: I traded the first guy a keyboard for my first guitar when I was 14. I gave the second guy guitar lessons years ago.

That's Cool! I should have the lights (2 Fab 5's) and the DMXIS software/HardWare by Wednesday. I'm upgrading my Rackmount Computer with Windows 8 right now, been having some trouble with the ATAport driver causing latency, I sure hope that a clean install with the latest greatest fixes it.

Things are coming together for me, slowly but surely. I've got 26 sound gigs lined up from now through september, and it's only April! But the new Van and the rolling racks and the dolly that turns into a 4-wheeled cart are definitely making my life a lot easier

26 gigs! That's awesome! All my big gigs are booked and a couple weddings. Then there's lots of bar gigs but they are only about a month ahead.

Finally able to set up the full rig!

It was an 80's themed party. They did some skits (Wheel of Fortune, Richard Simmonds/Flashdance, Cindy Lauper, KISS air guitar etc. we did 2 small sets (8 songs) in between, then we played 2 longer sets to finish. People dressed in 3 main styles.

Rockers: us, KISS, Dee Snyder, other rockers
Miami Vice style
Flashdance style

That would explain the KISS guys along with the weird leotard guy.

Maiden voyage of the new light rig as well!
