I left it set to 512k samples. Didn't really check the latency. What would be a good way to do that other than looking at the value S1 was giving for it in the audio setup?
Thanks

This is one of the standard tools for the job. There's another one but this one will allow you to see the stream of data and kind of get a feeling for the timing.

Download and run. It will tell you how your latency looks. Drop us a screenshot with your system at idle (not recording anything but still connected to your device via firewire) then another one with some recording happening and we can go from there. Also the rest of your system specs and running software would be helpful to tailor to your needs.

Hi im having the same issue as many on this thread. Currently attempting to get a Firestudio working thru a startech ec13942 express card on an Acer Aspire 5315 running Windows 7 HP.

Downloading DPC latency checker (thanks Monolithent) i can see there's something lagging the system up to 4000┬Ás every 15 seconds regardless of whether the Expresscard is attached or not. Im at a loss to explain what it is. Ive disabled pretty much every device available and stopped every nonessential service, yet it continues to spike at regular intervals.

Anyone have ANY ideas at all i would be truly grateful.
_______

Edit: Managed to get rid of the 15 sec spikes, by both setting the processor power options to min/max 100% and disabling the ACPI battery driver. Im getting clean green on the latency checker but im still getting slow GUI issues on the firestudio control panel, and recording / playing doesnt work on Sonar 8. Annoying.

Have a look here

http://oldforumsarchive.presonus.com/showthread.php?t=11031&page=2

Post 14 explains how to suspend ACPI in Windows. Give that a shot and see how it works for you. Make sure to run process hacker and figure out what Thread ID ACPI is running on your system. There may be more than one so be prepared to make adjustments to the batch file.

Hope that helps. If it doesn't. Jump back in here and we will see if we can help.

Hello again, ive tried everything i can with no joy, even dual booting xp/w7 the issue remains exactly the same on both OS', so im pretty convinced that the fault lies with the ExpressCard chipset.
Dont have the deets to hand, but will post them when im with the device so others can avoid this setup like the plague.

Are there any cheapo laptops which are guarenteed to work with the Firestudio? Or should i save my cash and just buy a watercooling kit for my noisey rackmounted pc?

I got mine to work by changing the drivers for the startech express card to the legacy drivers. Go into the device manager and try that.
Thanks

I had issues with my laptop. (See sig below.) I bought a TI PCI firewire card from Rain Recording, mainly because they guaranteed it would work with a huge list of DAW's.

I had to uninstall the factory FW drivers after I plugged in the new card. Everything is running like a champ now!
