The UC drivers have to be installed but the launcher app doesn't have to be running in order for S1 to control the hardware. If the launcher if running S1 will dynamically turn off the mix window of any device that is being controled by the cue mix feature.

im 99.9% positive that S1 already has the drivers needed for the FireStudio interfaces, and thats what lets it take advantage of zero-latency monitoring. ill try to find the original post in the old forum, but hopefully we can get an official answer to this, just for general knowledge (even tho Motokos already got it running)

however, i have UC installed and still cant find the Z button on the mixer to get the zero latency

Hmmm, it was late last night and I'm not sure. I just saw I also have UC installed, but not running. Man, I'm a bit of a mess.

Yes that seems to be my experience with it so far. Installed the drivers but the UC app is not always running or appears to be required in every case.

@ allenc3, scottharrell, sdrr00, db

Cheers guys. Yeah I don't run UC while using S1 either but I was hoping that it might be a clue to my random dropouts. But I'm sure it is simply just down to the firewire chipset in my lappy.

The UC is just a control panel and drivers. It should have no affect on audio while running. If you are getting drop outs the usual suspect is other drivers on the system creating high DPC latency.

Or latency settings or FireWire Chipset problems. Do you have your FireWire driver set to Legacy mode?

Yeah i will check the firewire chipset and buffer size first then check to make sure there is nothing else running in the background that will cause dropouts like Firewall or Anti-virus or other programs.

My DPC latency is well under, running the Presonus power management, using the Legacy firewire setting and no Antivirus. I've done lots or research over the forum and optimized every setting possible, but it doesn't fix it.

I know my laptop doesn't have the TI chipset, but I'm leasing it so there's not much I can do about it. I was just hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. It's a pain sometimes, but I'm able to spend a few hours writing before I have to reboot to reset the FSM, the signal simply drops off.

Thanks anyway dudes.

There are some tools on the interweb to check what type of firewire chip you are running.

Thanks Motoko.

I've tried that too before, but I don't know how to interpret the scan, see below.

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit [6.1.7600]
Number of CPUs: 8
Installed RAM: 4084 MB

Microsoft 1394ohci.sys [6.1.7600.16385]
Microsoft ohci1394.sys [6.1.7600.16385] (legacy)
Microsoft 1394bus.sys [6.1.7600.16385] (legacy)

Looking for OHCI 1394 Host Controllers...

Done.

Weird it doesn't seem to detect any controller. This is what mine is saying, just downloaded the tool and hit the scan now button:

Microsoft 1394ohci.sys [6.1.7600.16385]
Microsoft ohci1394.sys [6.1.7600.16385] (legacy)
Microsoft 1394bus.sys [6.1.7600.16385] (legacy)

Looking for OHCI 1394 Host Controllers...

Ah well good to know my scan tells me nothing, and here I was thinking I'm stupid because I didn't know what it means

No biggie, like I said it's something I'm prepared to put up with to use S1 cause I love it that much

Sorry to the original post, I think we hi-jacked it a bit
