Well, he talked to his Mother and since they have family out here, She's paying for the trip and he's coming out the weekend before he goes back to school. Since he's making the effort to come learn I told him I'd do it for free!! We're going to do 2 all afternoon sessions and I'm going to show him all I know with Studio One.

It should be a kick!! I know I still have much to learn in 2.0 but with all I know so far, we should have a great time.

The fact that he made the real effort, that's what impressed me!

Good for you! That is a gracious gesture on your part and real life example of what this season is all about. Proud of ya!

Dan

Thanx. The kids got a ton of drive and I really like his attitude! More kids like this are what the world needs. Of course, recording isn't gonna save the world, but I just think if he's willing to learn, I'd be silly not to offer.

Thanks for all the input guys. Makes me wish i was 16!

Going back to the PC, my company might be getting me a new Dell desktop:

1 OptiPlex 390 Minitower Standard PSU
1 Core i5-2400, 3.1GHz, 6M, VT-x, 95W, Optiplex 390
1 2GB,Non-ECC,1333MHz DDR3,1X2GB,Dell OptiPlex 390
1 512MB AMD RADEON HD 6350 Graphics Dual DVI, FH,OptiPlex 990
1 250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s and 8MB Data Burst Cache,Dell OptiPlex 390
1 Windows 7 Professional,SP1,No Media, 32-bit, Optiplex, English
1 16X DVD+/-RW SATA,Data Only,Dell OptiPlex Desktop or Minitower,Black
1 Heat Sink, Performance, Dell OptiPlex 390 Minitower
1 OptiPlex 390 Minitower Standard Power Supply

I ran this by my rep at Sweetwater and he says its the same processor family as their CS200 and he thought this would work well for me. I'll get a bigger drive or two of course. Your thoughts?

Thanks,

David

IMO, 2Gb of RAM is undersized by today's norms. I'd recommend 4Gb+. And, I'd also look into Win7, 64 bit, instead of 32. You can still run 32 bit apps, but the OS can leverage more than 4Gb of RAM.

Also, IMO, a 250Gb hard drive is pretty small.

Certainly don't bite the hand that feeds you, but some of the specs. here seem pretty minimal.

I can increase the hard drive size and it has the capacity for a second drive. And I'll add a lot more RAM. Good point about the 64 bit OS though.

Thanks,

Hey, you don't have to be 16. I'll do this for anyone that would make the trip to Chicago. I've offered this a dozen times but no one's ever taken me up on it.

Looks like I need to plan a trip to Chicago. I've seen your videos and could learn a TON! My 15yo musician would love it.

My advice to anyone who doesn't build their own computers is to go to studiocat.com. They build computers for audio at great prices and great service. The computer they built for me has been incredible so far.

Interesting, didn't know them yet. Website's a little ... flashy, though.
