now i use sl 16.4.2, and this pcmcia card doesn't work at all with Presonus Sl 16.4.2.

Well, I dunno about that card. I see that Focusrite recommends a Lindy Firewire ExpressCard with reservations, stating that it doesn't work on some Windows computers and they recommend it for the Mac only. They don't say anything about a PCMCIA or CardBus card from that company.

My inclination is to think that if it works with a Focusrite interface, it should work with the StudioLive, and that you could have a problem other than with the card. How much doesn't it work? Does it not connect to the StudioLive at all?

People have had good luck with Startech and SIIG Firewire adapter cards so you might try one of those of the proper flavor, but buy from a dealer who will let you return it for a refund if it doesn't solve your problem. Both have cards with TI and VIA chips, both of which have been reported to work with the StudioLive.

The problem could be with your computer, Firewire cable, the StudioLive, an incomplete software/driver installation. There are many ways for a StudioLive to not work.

The universal control responds. The mixer is ok because SL worked perfect on my friend's macbook.
but on my laptop when I'm trying to record in capture, on every other channel there is slow oscilating trangle wave and not a single channel is recording anything

That sounds really odd. I suppose it's worth trying a different Firewire card, but no guarantees.

One with a TI chipset that works on your particular computer. The variables are too many to be much more specific, especially with older technology such as PCMCIA

Well then it won't take an ExpressCard.

PCMCIA is like the ISA bus, CardBus is like the PCI bus (newer), ExpressCard is like PCI-Express (even newer). If you buy a new card it will almost certainly be CardBus. If your computer is old enough so it won't take a CardBus card, it probably won't run the StudioLive well either.

First, know your computer. If it'll take a CardBus card, try a SIIG NN-PCM22-S4. If it uses ExpressCard (which would mean it's newer than about four years old) try a SIIG NN-EC2012-S1. But make sure you know what your computer takes.

I too and am looking for a card for my laptop. I have a dell. I noticed earlier:

"People have had good luck with Startech and SIIG Firewire adapter cards so you might try one of those of the proper flavor, but buy from a dealer who will let you return it for a refund if it doesn't solve your problem. Both have cards with TI and VIA chips, both of which have been reported to work with the StudioLive. "

So any Startech would work or do I need to look for something specific on it? Any particular one that users are using and having success with?

Would this one work: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-ExpressCard-Firewire-Adapter-EC13942/dp/B000RKUKMG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Also I have a dell studio 1737 laptop like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Studio-17-Inch-Laptop-Obsidian/dp/B002PK158Y

It has firewire already. Would that work by it's self or would the startech be better?

Thanks,
Dave
