lilman6 wrote:Why Am I Getting So Much Static Through My Speakers I Thinking Its Coming From The AudioBox USB

Hi lilman6, I'm not sure why that is happening but here is a thread discussing what sounds like a very similar issue.

You might also get more answers and suggestions from other AudioBox users posting on the AudioBox forum and / or going direct to Tech support if you have not done so already. I hope that helps.

My own experience with PreSonus hardware...

I had a FireStudio Mobile that had an almost exact same problem ...static noise. I had to return the unit to HHB (distributors and support for PreSonus in the UK AFAICT) they could not repro the problem which also included the right output not working if the gain knob was turned more than half way. They just could not repro. After losing about a month or more of time on it I sent it back again and this time they were able to repro the issue. By that time I had to find a replacement (FA- 66) which I now use. HHB sent me a new FSM unit which I sold on ebay to cover the costs of the FA-66.

I am guessing most people do not have such issues with their PreSonus hardware and that there are many happy PreSonus hardware users out there. Sadly it just did not work out for me at the time. I really would like a PreSonus hardware software combo in future again at some point though.

Full Screen Analysis

Some of the Studio One Plugins can have their UI's adjusted to fit any screen size enabling you to scale their UI's all the way up to full screen should you wish to.

This can be very useful if you...

a. Want to analyse certain aspects of your mix but would prefer a larger UI display of information in a few Studio One (analysis) plugs.

b. Maybe you work with two screens and want to drag a S1 plugin UI to another screen...to have the UI fill that screen.

c. You use one screen but would like a slightly larger UI , or have a UI fill up to half of the screen horizontally or vertically.

There are likely other scenarios as well. So what plugs can be resized in the way?. Well AFAICT all of the plugins listed below can be scaled up to full screen in Studio One...

1. Level Meter

2. Phase Meter

3. Scope

4. Spectrum Meter

How to:

a. Insert any of the plugins on a track.

b. Double click on the insert to bring up the UI.

c. Drag the UI (without resizing it) to the top left of your screen.

d. Now drag the bottom right edge of the UI and drag diagonally to the right edge of your screen.

e. The plugs can also be dragged up or down vertically, and horizonally as well.

Show MIDI and Controller data on separate tracks in the arrange view

You can split those things up if you need to see them more clearly in arrange. Not a solution but a workaround which isn't too difficult...

1. Duplicate track with events.
2. Go into the midi editor on the dupe, select all, delete.
3. Right click the original and Part Functions "Remove Part Automation.
4. Select the two tracks right click "Group Selected Tracks" so they stay linked for editing in arrange.

db: You can of course do this in the Editor already without the workaround *but* this is a very nice workaround if you just want to quickly see your Controller data on a separate track in the arrange view and not overlaid on the MIDI data on the same track.

Jonathan Hillman

From the manual (which I learned from Eike ):

When using the FFT display, a -3 dB/octave line is displayed in addition to the frequency and level crosshair. This line represents compensation for the shrinking frequency-width of the FFT bands towards the higher end of the spectrum, which leads to a lower energy content. A well-balanced mix should somewhat approximate the slope of this line.

Slip Editing

You can move the contents of a clip (MIDI or Audio) by slip editing it in Studio One...

1. Make sure the Arrow tool is selected

2. Simply hold down Ctrl / (Cmd) + Alt while your mouse is hovering over the clip you want to slip edit. The Slip Tool icon should appear

3. Now click and drag left or right to move the contents of the clip...

Multiple clip slip editing....

4. Select multiple MIDI or Audio events (or even a combination of the two data types) across multiple tracks, and follow steps 1 to 3 to slip edit them at the same time.

Floating Toolbar

Use your middle mouse button to bring up a floating tool bar in Studio One for quick tool switching. This works in the Arrange / Tracks view and the Editor.

I just saw a tip "Unsupported Trick: Virtual Instruments To Audio Tracks" which is unsupported.

Could you provide a tip how to do that with supported methods?

I really enjoy to create effects and sounds using VSTi and write it directly to audio.

I've tired to record all my actions using rec of notes and automation with futher bounce. It takes additional time. Also S1 could not record all my actions in several synth (for instance SonicCharge Synplant, S1 could not record my mouse clicks on the plant, but it make a sound and i wand to record it).

Adding a record plugin like Edison to inserts of the instrument output is a compromise to. I want to record directly to the audio track.

In Cubase I did that using instrument track -> group channel track - > audio track (AFAIR).

Playing with buses in S1 didn't provide an obvious solution.

Hi innerpillars,

It seems you want a way to work on Track A with a VSTi and then record all your movements changes in realtime to Track B in Studio One. AFAIK this not currently possible using Studio One features alone but...there are a few ways to do this still...

Recording the output of tracks in realtime

There may be other ways to do this but AFAICT...

VST's

1. The best and likely easiest way is to use something like Tape it. Not sure if it has an x64 version but you can always use Jbridge to get around that.

VSTi's

1. Using a Sub host like Geist can also get around this as it can sample the output of a hosts tracks apparently with a "Spitter" plug. I have not tried this myself yet but it does seem to have this ability...

It seems though that what you would prefer is for your VI output to go to tracks in S1 not back to a Sub host like Geist. If that is the case then a plugin like Tape it seems ideal.

Rewire

This could also be another way to achieve what you are looking for. All your VI changes in your rewired host should be audible in S1. You would have to bounce that down though so it's not quite as quick as the first two options suggested.

I am also interested in "record track output" option in S1. I would guess it will arrive at some point and perhaps as part of cell based recording / pattern sequencing as FR'd here in this very popular thread or maybe as a single option on it's own. Either way recording a tracks output has many creative possibilites that I would also like to see in S1. Such a feature might make it's way into v.2 hopefully

Song File Management

If you drag in any audio files to your song, they won't necessarily get copied to the Song/Media folder. Try using Song | Copy External Files before you save and exit. This will collect any media that is linked outside of the song into the media folder. I wish it did this automatically, but it doesn't.

The default shortcut is Option-C (Mac) or Alt-C (PC). If you get in the habit of doing that when you save, the media will all ways be there. That makes it ready to copy or back up.

Track Resizing Trick

There are times when you might want to work on a small group of tracks within a larger number of tracks. You could use the controls at the foot of the tracks area but those controls will resize all tracks. In the example below I want to resize only a few tracks and leave the tracks above and below them untouched (left at their current size).

1. First hold down shift and click on the tracks you want to resize

2. Then place your cursor between the tracks and drag downwards to resize them.

Notice in the image above that the tracks above and below the selected tracks have not been resized. This kind of track management is very useful if you just want to quickly work on a group of tracks (Drums, Vocals, Keys e.t.c) without resizing *all* the tracks in your Song page / Arrange view.
