Hi!

I want to record my band and we want to record at least the drums and bass tracks simultaneously. Since there's no ADAT port on the Firestudio Project, can somebody tell me if for example I buy two of them Firestudio Project 8 track will I be able to connect them into making a 16 track interface (that would appear as such on Cubase or Pro Tools?)

Thank very much

Read page 34 of the FSP manual. If you e-bayed and have no manual, it's downloadable on the PreSonus home page. 2 FSPs daisy chained via firewire 400 = 20 ins and 20 outs. JOY!

Best of luck,

So I connect the "master" Firestudio to my iMac with firewire input 1, and connect my "slave" FSP via the second firewire input of my master FSP? is that correct?

Basically, yes. I still suggest that you download the FSP manual to see all of the possible combinations of the Firestudi family for details.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

I've read the manual but I'm afraid I'm gonna need the help of someone who actually already DID connect two FSP together (still didn't figure out if it was via firewire of S/PDIF) and made them work and appear as 16 individual tracks in their DAW

I really need to be sure before I buy two of them

From what I've read, you can connect two together via the manual's instructions and end up with two FSP's together and the ability to use 14 of the 16 XMAX preamps.

OR

you can link them via S/PDIF and utilize all 16 inputs, but you have to configure them in the controller.

How many simultaneous inputs will you need? and would running the drum mics to a mixer and simply running a L/R mixdown to the FSP be an option?

I have two FSP units and I connect them both onto Firewire via daisy chain as described in the FSP manual and record all 16 channels simultaneously with no problem. I use Studio One software with a Thinkpad T500 PC. In fact, I am buying another FSP tomorrow to record 24 channels at a live concert.

You can cascade up to four FSP units on a single FW chain, so says the FSP version 2.0 manual 2009 page 34.
