i know S1 prides itself on being able to drag & drop a lot of things around, and it is a very welcome feature. however, it is not always ideal. it is great for creating new tracks, dragging the instrument/sample to the desired spot, but for adding effects i think an easier option should be made available. in addition to dragging an effect onto a track, can we get the option of pressing "enter" on the desired effect and have it be applied to the selected track? this would make things much easier in many cases. in short: drag and drop is great, but lets not limit our options

read my post again and then tell me if i dont appreciate drag and drop. just because its better in most situations doesnt mean its the perfect and only solution

You can just choose an effect from the drop down that's right on the track, if you don't wanna drag it in....

right, but how is that any different from all the other DAWs? same tedious action.. plus arent those only the included effects? im talking all including 3rd party. my point is the browser, while highly effiecent and one of the best parts of S1, is not the be all - end all. its a great tool to have, but within the context of something bigger. i really hope this functionaliy gets improved. hell just right clicking the track and being able to choose effects a la cubase would make things alot easier. right click the track to apply on the whole track, right click event for offline processing.
again, im not attacking the browser per se, i love it and its one of the main reasons why i moved to s1. but just because its great doesnt mean we cant improve on it. just resting on "good enough" isnt gonna get us anywhere

There is nothing more than that at this point. The method described above is very close to how I did it in Cubase. I'm not sure what you feel is so different. All 3rd party plugins are at the bottom of the list.

I personally never looked back since I started using drag'n'drop which is really the easiest way IMHO - especially because you can drop on track, tracklist or the channel in the console.
However, I must say this is a very interesting idea. I'll kind of second this one, and even add the same for double clicking as well (so you can still do it without the keyboard, if you like).
Since my own Cubase days I'm not that much of a fan of countless options to activate one function, but some examples are still reasonable, intuitive and don't disturb the rest of the workflow ...

yes! totally forgot double click but for me they go hand in hand with pressing enter - the two easiest ways to select sonething
sdrr00 wrote:(...) they go hand in hand with pressing enter (...)
Exactly why I mentioned it.
Still, they are not quite the easiest ways (IMHO) in circumstances where you have to watch something else (here: your selected track) at the same time. That may be a matter of getting used to it, though ...
I somewhat agree with the op, but then again I'm so used to the effects bin in Sonar. You don't have to open the console view, or click on extra buttons (not that that's a big deal); you simply go to the effects bin built into the tracks and right click inside of it, add audio effects and there you are. You can also do this in the console view.
The browser is an innovative and forward thinking approach no doubt about it and other daws will surely copy it (as did Sonar already). But I agree, for effects a right click here or there or somewhere on the track would be welcome. For now I do it the way themuzic showed.
You can double click to load presets from the browser, to the plug with focus, without drag and drop but no, you can't hit enter or double click to add FX like that. It might be nice to have but it probably wouldn't work for some things anyway like grouped tracks.
I've never seen any method as fast as drag drop to add FX. Once you "touch" it with the mouse it's a tiny move as opposed to taking your hand off the mouse (or using another hand) to hit Enter. I probably wouldn't use the Enter method but I hope you get it.
And people wonder why other daws are so bloated. Was going to say something else, but on second thought I think it would be better if I just left this one alone.
Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot!

This is my personal view of things !
The thing is though with the S1 workflow I hardly select tracks specifically. I just grab whatever it is I need to edit. So from that point of view it would certainly slow me down. Check if the proper channel or track is selected and if it isn't select it. Then select the FX move my hand from the mouse to the keyboard...
I guess we all have different workflows, which of course is good. But I personally think drag and drop is more streamlined.

go ahead and say it buddy, I'm sure your hardcore but I think I can take it. if you thinking adding a one button shortcut is bloat, go get your head examined, even tho im sure it's in much better condition than everyone else's.
